Der unübliche Umstand, dass zwei Emmy-Verleihungen innerhalb eines Jahres stattfinden, ist dem Streik der Drehbuchautoren und Darsteller zwischen Mai und November 2023 geschuldet – der eigentlich angepeilte Termin musste deswegen auf den vergangenen Januar geschoben werden. Im Peacock Theater von Los Angeles durften sich damals vor allem “Succession“ und “The Bear“ über Würdigung freuen.
Da es sich bei erstgenanntem Format um die letzte Staffel handelte, ist es dieses Mal nirgendwo unter den Nominierten zu finden. Sehr wohl jedoch “The Bear“, das den bereits im letzten Januar mit einem Emmy prämierten Hauptdarsteller Jeremy Allen White als stressgeplagten Küchenchef zeigt und verteilt über Haupt- und Nebenkategorien erneut für stolze 23 Auszeichnungen nominiert ist.
Japanisch-sprachiges Historiendrama überzeugt international
Die größte Ausbeute gelingt jedoch einem Newcomer: Das bereits bei Erscheinen von der Kritik gefeierte Historiendrama “Shōgun“, das den gleichnamigen Roman von James Clavell als zehnteilige Miniserie adaptiert, geht im September mit 25 Nominierungen ins Rennen. Nach “Squid Game“ handelt es sich um das insgesamt erst zweite Format in nicht-englischer Sprache, das als beste Drama-Serie geehrt werden könnte.
Daneben kommt die Comedy-Krimi-Serie “Only Murders in the Building“ von und mit Steve Martin auf 21 Nominierungen, während es “True Detective: Night Country“ 19- und “The Crown“ 18- fach in die engste Auswahl schaffen. Nachdem "The Last of Us“ im letzten Nominierungszyklus eine bemerkenswert stark berücksichtigte Videospieladaption ablieferte, folgt "Fallout“ an dieser Stelle nun mit 16 Nennungen.
